Dear Earth

As part of World Book Day, Year 3 have been busy this morning reading and then reflecting on Dear Earth. In the book, it says that the Earth is fragile and needs love and care. Year 3 came up with many ideas on how we can care for our wonderful planet! Take a look at some of our ideas:

World Book Day

Happy World Book Day! Dressed in their pyjamas, the children are enjoying sharing their books today. We have some wonderful cakes to celebrate the day too – they will be cut up and on sale at 3.15 this afternoon.

We look forward to welcoming parents and carers to our Big Read at 2.55pm today! Please enter the gates onto the playground by Year 1 and 2.

World War II

As part of English linked with History, and to get a better understanding of what children of war felt, Year 6 were given pictures to enact. They worked in groups to create a freeze frame and other children had to guess what the scene would be. Fantastic teamwork and enthusiasm, Year 6!

Rugby

This afternoon, Scott from Coventry Rugby Club joined Year 6. He spent some time reading with the children before leading the class in a rugby session. Scott will be joining the children for the next few weeks – let’s hope the weather improves!

Year 1 to the rescue!

This morning, the children came into the classroom to find they’d had a visit from ‘The Evil Pea’. He had caught all of Supertato’s vegetable friends and tied them up! Supertato was away on holiday so Year 1 were keen to help. They created their own Supertato characters, gave theme superpowers and helped to free the vegetables. They wrote some amazing sentences about their characters!

Heartwarming Haikus

Year 5 have really enjoyed thinking carefully about descriptive language and word choice to create Haiku poems about our school chicks and stick insects this week.

Summer Reading Challenge

The Reading Agency and libraries are excited to introduce Space Chase, Summer Reading Challenge 2019; an out-of-this-world adventure inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.

This summer children will help our super space family track down books nabbed by mischievous aliens! As they read library books, they will solve clues and collect special stickers to complete their missions folder. Can they find the aliens in time to save the day?

The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays. You can sign up at your local library, then read at least six books of your choice to collect special stickers and other rewards along the way – all for FREE. There’s a website to add to the fun too.

The Space Chase, Summer Reading Challenge 2019 started on Saturday 13 July and ends in the first week of September.

If you join in with the Reading Challenge, please share your booklets with us in September so we can celebrate reading in our Friday Assembly.

Bake Off Books

This week, our new books arrived for our library. We were only able to buy these books thanks to the money raised during the Great Bookish Bake Off on World Book Day. Thank you to everyone who made or bought cakes – the children will enjoy reading these books!

World Book Day Bake Off Winners

Congratulations to our World Book Day Bake Off Winners, who were announced in today’s celebration assembly. The event raised a massive £135.45, which will go towards new books in the library. Thank you all for your generosity.

World Book Day

The children enjoyed a day of reading today as part of World Book Day. They brought in their favourite books, read to each other, listened to a story in assembly and completed various activities in class.

Thank you for the many amazing cakes, which were brought in as part of our World Book Day Bake Off. The winners will be announced in assembly on Friday. Thank you to the many parents, who joined us for our Big Read, and also for your generosity in buying cakes at our Cake Sale.
