Create a game

With the announcement of the postponement of the Olympics, I thought for today’s activity, we could think about the different games we play in PE. Today, try to create your own game.

Think about:

  • The aim of the game (how can it be won?)
  • Equipment needed
  • Number of players
  • Rules

Write it all up into one poster and maybe we can play the game when we all get back to school. Who knows, maybe one day, your game will be an Olympic sport!

Sports Relief

The children have had a brilliant time getting muddy on our muddy obstacle course. Thank you all for the donations for Sport Relief – we will announce our grand total soon!

Rugby

This afternoon, Scott from Coventry Rugby Club joined Year 6. He spent some time reading with the children before leading the class in a rugby session. Scott will be joining the children for the next few weeks – let’s hope the weather improves!

Rugby

On Wednesday, Year 5 and 6 were visited by Coventry Rugby Club. The players will be returning in the new year to do reading sessions, sport sessions and will run a club for Year 5 and 6. The after school club will start on Tuesday 14th January for 6 weeks and costs £12. All details can be found on SIMS Pay.

For more details, please speak to Mrs Amphlett.

Athletics

This morning Year 6 took part in the Sports Hall Athletics Competition at the Xcel Centre. They were competing with three other local schools and faced some really tough competition. Our children came 2nd place overall which is a great achievement! Well done Year 6 for showing great teamwork, enjoyment and discipline and we couldn’t have been prouder of how you represented our school.

Football Focus – Girls

Last Thursday, our girls’ football team played their second game for the Warwick University Girls League. We played against Grange Farm and the school values that the girls displayed were outstanding. The final score was 23-1 to Grange Farm. A massive well done to our girls for their teamwork and resilience. I would also like to say a big thank you also to the parents and carers who came to support the team.

Football Focus – Boys

Last week, the boys kicked off their campaign with two matches: away at Allesley Hall and home against Howes Primary.

On Thursday, against Allesley Hall, the boys started well as a team, passing the ball round in challenging weather conditions. They worked hard as a team and the game was extremely close. Unfortunately, Allesley Hall made the most of two rare chances and Cannon Park were unable to convert their shots into goals while in search of an equaliser. Our goalkeeper made a brilliant save to deny a third goal, which drew gasps and cheers from the crowd.

On Friday, against Howes Primary, the boys started well and took the lead. A more attacking style of play was a joy to watch to the many spectators. They wanted goal after goal! Unfortunately, a few too many of the goals fell to Howes Primary and the scoreline ended 8-6.

Despite two defeats, the boys played extremely well as a team and enjoyed their first two games. It is only a matter of time until these excellent performances turn into results for this young and ambitious team! Many thanks to the parents for their outstanding support on the sidelines.

Match of the Day

Cannon Park Girls beat Newdigate Primary in their first match of the season. The girls stuck to their formation well and showed a calmness on the ball and a keen eye for a pass. Their tenacity in the tackle led to many shooting opportunities and the scoreline ended an emphatic 7-0. All the girls represented Cannon Park proudly, showing all of our values.  This photo was taken before the match. If you think they look happy here, you should’ve seen their smiles after the game! The team really enjoyed the match and it was played in an excellent spirit.
