Mini beasts

Reception have been busy bee’s this week! We have been learning about mini beasts and making bug hotels outside ! We also used junk modelling to make bee’s in the craft area.

Science Week in Reception

This week in Reception, we learnt all about growing. We planted cress and found out where milk comes from! We also made our own healthy smoothies and yoghurt bowls.

We arrrrr pirates!

Reception have been learning about pirates this week. They have had the chance to create swords, eye patches, treasure chests, messages in bottles and even pirate ships outside!

Tiger Week

This week the children in Reception have been learning all about tigers! They all did some tiger artwork including  sketching, paper plate craft  and shape tracing. The children also set up a tiger tea party and loved experimenting with different types of tea bags , designing invitations and even enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate!

Winter Walk

As part of our Forest Friday this week we went on a walk to look for signs of winter. The children discovered frost and ice around the field and on the plants. They enjoyed exploring and touching the ice with their hands and watching it melt.

 

Stone Soup

This week we read the traditional story of ‘Stone Soup’ and looked at what made a healthy soup. We learnt about vegetable names and how to use knives safely. We then designed and made a vegetable soup to try. The children loved tasting their healthy soup and showed great teamwork!

When I grow up…

The children this week have been thinking about what they want to be when they grow up! They have done some amazing drawings, paintings, models and writing about their dream job.We have also been learning about Florence Nightingale and people who work in hospitals. Every child then designed a card for the NHS to say thank you to all the workers for their hard work!

 

Autumn leaves

We’ve had such a busy, exciting week in Reception exploring the signs of Autumn. The children have made Autumn crowns and jewellery using the different colour leaves they found on their Autumn walk around the school grounds. They also learnt about hedgehogs and why they hibernate. We made clay and potato hedgehogs and then created a cozy home for them.

Carols Around the Tree

December would usually see the hall full of children, staff and parents, enjoying a Christmas musical extravaganza in the shape of our annual concert, Carols Around the Tree. Unfortunately, we are unable to gather together this Christmas but that didn’t stop Miss Ashby! She has worked tirelessly to coordinate the staff and children to create a virtual Carols Around the Tree. Please click on Christmas Tree below to enjoy the show.
