Rainbows

Good morning Cannon Park!

I hope you’re all safe and well. Today is the first day of a very different routine for many of you but I know you will all continue to demonstrate our school values wherever you are this morning.

Each day, I will posting an activity on the website – an activity that many of you will be able to join in with. I will also add useful websites to further your learning. If you join in with the activity, please feel free to send in a photo to our new website email address website@cannonpark.coventry.sch.uk  and I’ll add some to the website.

For the first activity, I thought we’d start with one about hope and positivity. With social distancing and lots of places including many school closing, children are connecting with each other by painting colourful rainbows and putting them in their windows for others to see. Today, why not create your own rainbow and stick it in your window. You might want to use felt tips or paint or even do a collage.

We may not all be in the building but we are still all one school.

World Book Day

Everyone in school enjoyed celebrating books yesterday for World Book Day. The children, who were dressed in their PJs with their favourite bedtime story, enjoyed doing a variety of bookish activities. Mrs MacDonald rang the bell several times throughout the day, which meant the children had to ‘drop everything and read’.

Thank you to the families who sent in cakes as part of our Great Bookish Bake Off. The money raised in the cake sale at the end of the day will go right back into buying books for our library, which the children will enjoy.

Finally, a big thank you to all the parents and carers and grandparents who came in to join us for the Big Read at the end of the day. It was lovely to see so many children enjoying stories!

Dear Earth

As part of World Book Day, Year 3 have been busy this morning reading and then reflecting on Dear Earth. In the book, it says that the Earth is fragile and needs love and care. Year 3 came up with many ideas on how we can care for our wonderful planet! Take a look at some of our ideas:

World Book Day

Happy World Book Day! Dressed in their pyjamas, the children are enjoying sharing their books today. We have some wonderful cakes to celebrate the day too – they will be cut up and on sale at 3.15 this afternoon.

We look forward to welcoming parents and carers to our Big Read at 2.55pm today! Please enter the gates onto the playground by Year 1 and 2.

Reflection in nature

Continuing their learning of light, Year 3 looked at reflections made by nature. The children examined pictures of landscapes which had beautiful reflections in clear and still water. They then designed their own reflective landscapes using watercolour pencils. We had some lovely scenic pictures. Well done Year 3.

Tricks of light

Year 3 were Scientists this afternoon, looking at how light reflects and travels. They made their own periscopes using cereal boxes and mirrors and were absolutely amazed at how they could use them to see around corners and over and under things. The children even went into Year 6, where they saw Mrs MacDonald, and were keen to explain how their periscopes work. What great enthusiasm and enjoyment for Science Year 3!

UNICEF Workshop

This afternoon, Year 3 were visited by Warwick University students on behalf of UNICEF.  We had a workshop delivered on Nutrition and the importance of a healthy and varied diet. Furthermore, they spoke about the work they do to support those children, who are in need in less developed countries around the world. They also informed us about how we can get involved by doing simple things within our local community. Finally we created group posters on what we had learnt from the session.

Shadow Puppets

Year 3 were Scientists this afternoon, learning about light and how shadows are formed. The children made some very interesting shadow puppets with their hands using a torch and card. They took some fantastic pictures with their IPads too!

Magic Magnets

Year 3 had an exciting afternoon using magnets. They discovered how they could make a paper clip hover in the air using a piece of string and a magnet. We had some very excited children amazed by science!
