On Thursday, children celebrated World Down Syndrome Day. Year 5 wore odd socks for the day and all the children took part in an assembly on the theme of ‘Leave no one behind’.
National Handwriting Day
The children were keen to show off their best handwriting today as part of National Handwriting Day. Both the staff and children have been working hard to think of creative methods to develop handwriting.
Tudor Freeze Framing
As part of their Tudor topic, Year 5 enjoying freeze framing Anne Boleyn’s trial. The children were very animated and passionate and the activity was enjoyed by everyone!
Children in Need
What a day! Everyone looked amazing in their bright colours today – special mention to Mr Kelley for that shirt! Thanks to the generosity of our parents and families, the bring-n-buy sale was a great success! Our School Council, led did a brilliant job in organising the event. Be prepared for some creative Christmas gifts from the children this year.
Word Class
Today, Year 5 have been developing their understanding of word classes. They worked in teams to group different words into nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, propositions and determiners before building sentences using words from the different classes.
Chris Priestly Visit
We were delighted to welcome the author, Chris Priestley, to work with Years 5 & 6. He talked about his life as an author and illustrator, and showed the children how to ‘characterise’ a drawing. We then had a go at drawing ourselves as pirates. Huge thanks to Kenilworth Books and Bloomsbury Children’s Books for bringing Chris to our school for the afternoon.
Drumming
Over the past few weeks, Year 5 have been learning how to play the drums as one big group. It has been great to see such amazing teamwork in action.
Science Day
Year 5/6 enjoyed an afternoon of science as part of Science Week.
Come on England!
World Cup fever has spread across the school today as everyone dressed in red and white to support England against Tunisia this evening.
Tennis Tournament
Last week, a group of Year 5/6 children enjoyed taking part in a tennis tournament. Everyone had a great time and represented the school extremely well.
