Welcome to Year 1

Year 1 have enjoyed a busy couple of weeks settling into their new learning environment. They have constructed, created, investigated and even met our new school chicks! They have shown all the school values and we are very proud of them.

Kenilworth Castle

Year 1 had an amazing time at Kenilworth Castle. The children loved learning about the castle’s history and exploring the grounds. Lots of fun was had by all!

Fossils

Year 1 spent the afternoon investigating fossils using bread and jelly beans. We have made our very own fossils and are looking forward to becoming archaeologists next week.

Chinese New Year

Children in Year 1 had an exciting morning learning about Chinese New Year. We were lucky enough to have Miss Louise come in and tell us it’s history and share some lovely traditions with us. The children will also enjoy a special Chinese New Year menu at lunchtime.

National Handwriting Day

The children were keen to show off their best handwriting today as part of National Handwriting Day. Both the staff and children have been working hard to think of creative methods to develop handwriting.

Mod Rock Monsters

In Year 1 we have had an exciting afternoon using Mod Rock to transform our model monsters into sculptures. The children can’t wait to see their monsters once they are dry!

Monster Mess

Year 1 couldn’t believe their eyes this morning! A monster had climbed into their classroom! They found lots of clues and even a video recording! We discovered that he is a friendly monster called ‘Munch’ and all he wants is some friends. The children are so excited and have come up with amazing ideas of how they can help him!

Letter from Stickman

This week, Year 1 received a very exciting letter. Stickman wrote to the children, asking for their help. It had been a very windy day and he had been blown out of his family tree!  Stickman was lost and couldn’t find his way back home. The Year 1 children were very excited to help him so they went on an adventure to help Stickman find his family. They looked everywhere – behind the bins, under a bench, in the barn, up a very tall tree, until they finally found what they were looking for in the Reception garden!

This adventure created a real ‘buzz’ in the classroom and the children produced some fantastic writing in their English lessons. We are very proud of them!

Children in Need

What a day! Everyone looked amazing in their bright colours today – special mention to Mr Kelley for that shirt! Thanks to the generosity of our parents and families, the bring-n-buy sale was a great success! Our School Council, led did a brilliant job in organising the event. Be prepared for some creative Christmas gifts from the children this year.

Diwali

Year 1 learnt all about Diwali today. We talked about the festival of light and why diva lamps are lit. We had great fun using our creative skills to make our own diva lamps and we are looking forward to decorating them later in the week when the clay has dried.
